Obituaries

Harold Larsen Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Harold E. Larsen, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Private inurnment will be at the Newport Cemetery at a later date.

Born in Newport, Mr. Larsen died Wednesday.

He graduated from Newport High School in 1933 and then worked in the shipyards near Seattle for about four years and returned to Newport.

In 1952 he married Ruth Wear.

He worked for many years with the Shell Oil Co. and at a Shell service station. He then worked at a grocery store in Cusick, Wash., and later at Burgan’s Grocery in Priest River, Idaho.

Mr. Larsen was also employed by the Garrett Freight Lines, first as a truck driver and later as office manager.

He was active with the Newport Kiwanis, the Masonic Lodge, the Knights of Phithias and the United Church of Christ.

Mr. Larsen was also a member of the Newport Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as the chief for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Harold Larsen of Priest River; two daughters, Arvalla Larsen of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra Howell of Manson, Wash.; a brother, Walter Larsen of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Cemetery or to the United Church of Christ in Newport.

Lillie Carter Spokane

Service for Lillie Mae Carter, 85, will be at 10 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Carter, who was born in Muskogee, Okla., died Nov. 17.

She graduated from Manuel Training School in Muskogee and moved to Spokane in 1947.

Miss Carter worked at Fairchild Air Force Base for a short time and then worked in housekeeping for various private homes.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served on its board of ushers.

Survivors include a niece, Lola Newbins of Renton, Wash.; three grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.

Esther Wynecoop Wellpinit, Wash.

Service for Esther J. Wynecoop, 55, is set for 11 a.m. today at the Spokane Tribal Longhouse in Wellpinit. Burial will follow at the Wellpinit Community Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wynecoop, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Wellpinit High School and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Delbert; two daughters, Laura Winkel of Kennewick and Kathy Whipple of St. Paul, Minn.; eight brothers, Bill Mutch of Chico, Calif., George Mutch of Maryland, Dan Mutch of Lodi, Calif., John Mutch of Germany, Rob Mutch of Newman Lake, Jim and Geoff Mutch, both of Lewiston, and Tim Mutch of Winnemucca, Nev.; two sisters, Erma Jones of Phoenix and Becky Scheel of Chewelah, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Sharon Wheeler Spokane

No service will be held for Sharon H. Wheeler, 59, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wheeler, who was born in Helena, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, and worked as a restaurant cook.

She is survived by three sons, Cordon Pyeatt, and Norman and Joel Christianson, and a daughter, Kayla Pyeatt, all of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Frances Campbell Spokane

Funeral Mass for Frances B. Campbell, 75, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Campbell, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy, and worked for Carnation Dairy Co. for 33 years.

Mrs. Campbell was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Her husband, Harry Campbell, died in 1985.

She is survived by two brothers, Carl Petersen of Concord, Calif., and Gerard Petersen of Spokane; two sisters, Mary For-tier of Grants Pass, Ore., and June Petersen of Newport, Wash.; and several grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Sisters of the Holy Names.

Margaret Caruso Spokane

Funeral Mass for Margaret J. Caruso, 74, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Private burial will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Caruso died Tuesday.

She was a volunteer for many organizations including the United Service Organization, Immaculate Heart Retreat House, St. Ann’s parish and the Veterans Administration Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Parish.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mario; two sons, Tony Caruso and Tony Enrico, both of Spokane; three daughters, Judy Hemmert of Valleyford, Wash., and Barbara Pilarski and Kathy Smith, both of Spokane; a sister, Sister Dorothy Sanchez of Gardnerville, Nev.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Janet Stead Spokane

Private service was held for Janet V. Stead.

Mrs. Stead, 63, died Sunday.

She was born in San Francisco, and worked as a bookkeeper and dental assistant before retiring.

Mrs. Stead moved to Spokane 13 years ago.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution-Esther Reed Chapter and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include a son, Dean Smith of Spokane; a sister, Joy Hipp of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, L.I. Carlsen of Kokomo, Ind.; and four stepchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, The Spokane County Animal Shelter, or the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, D.C.

James Andersch Spokane

Memorial service for James L. Andersch, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Resurrection. There will be private inurnment. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Andersch, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Tuesday.

He graduated in 1939 from Great Falls High School and served in the Army Air Corps. He was part of a B-24 crew that flew in the South Pacific.

He moved to Spokane in 1968.

Mr. Andersch was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son, Marc Andersch of West Richland, Wash.; a daughter, Diana Freiday of Spokane; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank Eslick Orient, Wash.

Service for Frank M. Eslick, 61, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kettle River Grange in Barstow, Wash. Graveside service will follow at Saints Flat Cemetery in Daisy, Wash. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eslick, who was born in Omak, Wash., died Tuesday.

In 1956 he married Emma Irby in Superior, Mont., and they lived for a short time in Ellensburg before moving to Orient in 1958.

Mr. Eslick worked for the United States Forest Service for 33 years in the engineering department, where he did surveying and contract supervision.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Frank Eslick Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Leo Eslick of Everett, Roy Eslick of Oak Harbor, Wash., Doug Eslick of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Pete Kirschbaum of San Diego; his mother, Ruth Eslick of Orient; seven sisters, Doris Martin of Kettle Falls, Jackie Delp and Gladys Tolliver, both of Orient, Elaine Meloche of Deer Park, Linda Shawn of Liberty Lake, Debbie Fantasia of Chewelah, Wash., and Kathleen Sisseck of Colville; four brothers, Ron and Mike Eslick, both of Orient, Bruce Eslick of Kettle Falls and Pat Eslick of Colville; and 16 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Orient Parent Teacher Organization in care of the Orient School.

Cleo Helm Spokane

Private graveside service for Cleo M. Helm, 93, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Helm, who was born in Des Moines, Iowa, died Tuesday.

She worked as a secretary for the telephone company in Spokane in the 1920s and 1930s, and later became a homemaker.

Mrs. Helm spent the majority of her life in Spokane, and was a member of Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Human Society.

Her husband, Elmer Helm, died last June.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews.

Raymond Langenbach, M.D. Spokane

No service will be held for Raymond Jacob Langenbach, 83, at his request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Langenbach, who died Tuesday, was born in Helena.

He served in the Army Air Corps.

Dr. Langenbach practiced medicine as in internist in Chicago for 30 years.

He served as associate professor at Northwestern Medical School in Chicago and retired in 1983. He then moved to Spokane.

Dr. Langenbach was instrumental in establishing the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

He is survived by a sister, Irene Langenbach of Spokane.

Pearl Thaut Ritzville, Wash.

No public service is planned at this time for Pearl L. Thaut. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thaut, 72, died Sunday.

She was born in Worley, Idaho, and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe of Indians and St. Agnes Catholic Church of Ritzville.

Mrs. Thaut was a homemaker and volunteered in the Ritzville community.

Her husband, Donald, died in 1989.

Survivors include a daughter; Verna Taylor of Spokane; a son, Robert Hurst of Seattle; a brother, Rexford Chamberlain of Claremont, Calif.; and two sisters, Leona Hurst of Spokane and Lavina Dahmen of Seattle.

Joseph Wunderlich Spokane

Visitation for Joseph D. Wunderlich, 79, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Vigil service will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paschal Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 9 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Wunderlich, a 47-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

In 1942 he married Margaret Neseth in Spokane.

He was a self-employed accountant.

Mr. Wunderlich was a member of St. Paschal Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Washington Association of Accountants and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Michael Wunderlich of Spokane and John Wunderlich of Snohomish, Wash.; a brother and two sisters, all in Nebraska; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paschal Catholic Church.

Betty Grimm Addy, Wash.

Memorial service for Betty L. Grimm, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Summit Valley Community Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grimm, who was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School, and her first job was assisting in giving out food at the courthouse in Bonners Ferry.

In 1939 she married Everett Grimm in Helena, and in 1949 they moved to Summit Valley.

Mrs. Grimm was on the Summit Valley School Board and drove a school bus for 30 years. She also worked on voter registration, and was on the board of directors for both the Addy Grange bingo and Sunny Acres Housing Project.

She was instrumental in establishing telephone service in the Summit Valley area, and was a member of the Summit Valley Community Church, Home Ec Club, Tamarack Travelers and the Ladies Mission.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Neil Grimm of Spokane and Mark, Kenny and Ed Grimm, all of Addy; three daughters, Karyl Collinge of Tiger, Wash., Mary Harding of Chewelah and Linda Grimm of Spokane; a brother, Charles Leslie of Spokane; a sister, Adelaide Spears of Hayden, Idaho; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Summit Valley Community Church.

Wallace Bishop Springfield, Ore.

Graveside memorial service for Wallace Delmore Bishop, 85, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born near Garfield, Mr. Bishop died Monday.

He graduated from Newport (Wash.) High School and in 1941 married Marie Meilike in Sandpoint.

Mr. Bishop worked in the construction and wood industries, and later worked at Martin’s Payless service station in Spokane until his retirement.

He moved to Springfield several years ago, but still spent summers at Diamond Lake, Wash., until recently.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Esther Hildahl of Spokane; two sons, Eugene Bihsop of Eugene, Ore., and Leroy Bishop of Newport; a brother, Jim Bishop of Ione, Wash.; and four grandsons.
