Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Readers: Did you know that one in 10 men and one in five women will suffer some type of depression over the course of their lives? It could be you, your next-door neighbor, a family friend no one is immune.

If you feel you may be suffering from depression, don’t fret. There is help in a big way waiting for you - a free screening!

Thursday is National Depression Screening Day, which has attracted almost 350,000 people over the last six years. Mark it on your calendar. All you need to do is call (800) 573-4433 to find the site nearest you where a screening will be held.

Go listen to an educational talk on depression, take a written test about any symptoms you may be having and then discuss the results with a trained professional. If you need additional help, they can recommend mental health-care facilities/doctors in your area. The screenings are free and anonymous as always, so don’t hesitate. A screening may help you gain control of your life again. - Heloise
