Tyson Curtis Colfax Year: Senior Sport: Football Position: Qb/Db

Colfax opponents have to be confused now.

In a key Northeast A football game last Friday, Freeman lined up in the traditional, “stop Colfax,” defense - a nine-man front designed to halt the Bulldogs’ wishbone running game.

It worked, sort of.

Colfax senior quarterback Tyson Curtis completed eight passes for 192 yards and five touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 40-0 romp.

“They have a lot of respect for our running game so they put a lot of guys on the line,” Tyson, son of head coach Doug Curtis, said. “It opened up the pass.”

Two Colfax running backs were not 100 percent healthy so Curtis’ performance was just what the Bulldogs needed.

Not bad for someone who was a running back and never took a snap until his junior year. Curtis has 10 TD passes this year and has only two sacks and two interceptions in his career.

“The wishbone is a fun offense,” said Curtis, who threw just one pass a week earlier and five the week before. “I like running the ball, it fits our team well, but it was fun to throw for a change.

“We have four good receivers; they make things happen, he said. “I was just throwing to the open guy. The line gave me a lot of time to throw.”
