Japan Trade Report Boosts Dollar
The dollar was higher against other major currencies in a quiet session Monday after Japan said its trade surplus grew less than expected in August, reducing worries about U.S.-Japanese trade tension.
Dealings were light as the Columbus Day holiday left many trading rooms empty or sparsely staffed.
“It was basically a nothing day,” said Enrico Caruso, a vice president at Dresdner Bank in New York.
