Sandpoint’s girls soccer team wrapped up the North Idaho League title in style Tuesday, shutting out Lakeland 6-0 at Lakeland.
The Bulldogs have the same number of league wins (11) as second place Coeur d’Alene, but Sandpoint (11-1-2), 13-1-2) has two ties and the Vikings don’t have any.
Although the league has no official point system to determine the league winner, District 1 commissioner Rob Beck said he has opted to use a formula of two points for a win, one for a tie, giving Sandpoint the crown.
In Tuesday’s match, Jenny Harvey and Jessica Tangen had two goals apiece to lead the Bulldogs.
Lakeland drops to 3-8-3 in league and 3-9-3 overall.
At Coeur d’Alene, Janee Andre scored two goals and Elizabeth Hail had three assists to lead host Coeur d’Alene to a 6-0 win over Post Falls.
The Vikings, now 11-2-0 in league and 13-5-0 overall, moved into sole possession of second place when Moscow lost 1-0 to Lake City.
Coeur d’Alene outshot Post Falls (1-11-1, 2-12-1) 25-3.
At Lake City, Erika Olson headed in a goal off a corner kick at the 88-minute mark to give the Timberwolves a 1-0 win over the Moscow Bears.
The Bears had been tied with Coeur d’Alene for second place in league prior to Tuesday’s game.
Moscow drops to 10-4-0 in league and 12-4-0 overall. Lake City is 7-5-2 and 8-5-3.
