Lc Pulls Into Tie For Second

Lindsay Herbert’s six kills, eight digs and three blocks Thursday led Lake City to a 15-6, 15-7 volleyball win at Lewiston that tied the Timberwolves for second place in the Inland Empire League.

Alison Asher added six kills, Brianne Taylor five aces and Jennifer Derr 23 assists for LC (9-9, 5-2), which is tied with Post Falls heading into Saturday’s league-ending match against the Trojans at LC. The winner will earn the second seed to the A-1 Region I Tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Lewiston (4-12, 2-5) led the first game 4-0 before LC scored 12 consecutive points. Taylor served LC to a 5-0 lead in the second game.

Lewiston, the No. 4 seed, will host Coeur d’Alene in a playoff Monday for a region berth.

Elsewhere, IEL champion Sandpoint (16-3, 6-1) notched a 15-8, 15-13 win at CdA (4-13, 0-8) after trailing the second game 7-0.

Blake Hoorelbeke had seven blocks and Sarah Seale five digs for CdA.

JoAnne Vogrig had four kills and two blocks and served the final two points of the match as Priest River (9-6, 5-5) defeated visiting Kellogg 15-10, 18-16 in the Intermountain League.

Melanie Duley of the Spartans added 12 digs and five consecutive service points in the first game after the Wildcats (3-13, 1-9) led 7-2. Kellogg also led the second game 5-0 before PR came back.

The match between Lakeland (12-9, 3-5) and host Moscow (8-9, 5-3) wasn’t reported.

Abbie Bartmess served eight consecutive points in the first game as visiting Falls Christian defeated Lakeside 15-10, 15-10 at Plummer to earn a shot at the North Star League title.

FC (10-2, 5-2) will host Mullan (12-5, 5-2) on Saturday in a season-ending match to determine the league champ.

Melanie Johnson added 11 assists for the Eagles. Angela Flint had 30 assists, Michelle Kelley 14 digs and Amy Fuchs six kills for Lakeside (12-10, 5-3), which will finish tied for second place with Saturday’s loser.

Bonners Ferry (10-10) overcame deficits of 6-0 in the first game and 10-5 in the final game to defeat visiting Wallace 15-10, 15-8, 15-13.

Sarah Walter had 13 assists and five aces, Dana Robertson 13 assists and four aces, and Amber Paulson nine kills and three blocks for the Badgers. Lindsay Carrico had four kills and four aces, and Meghan England four kills and two blocks for the Miners (15-11).
