Stephen Brewer Spokane

Service for Stephen Russell Brewer, 32, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Brewer, who was born in Spokane, died Monday of cardiac arrest.

He was a 1982 graduate of Ferris High School.

Mr. Brewer worked as a landscaper and a sprinkler installer for Dew Drop Sprinklers and Landscaping in Spokane.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union.

Survivors include his father, Russell Brewer of St. Marie, Mont.; his mother, Elizabeth Simmons of Spokane; a brother, Timothy Neeley of Spokane; and four sisters, Debra Neeley of Denver, Cynthia O’Hara of Spokane, Robin Ringer of Anoka, Minn., and Elizabeth Barwinski of Panama City, Fla.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gustav ‘Gus’ Carlson Spokane

Service for Gustav “Gus” Carlson, 88, is set for 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Carlson, who was born in Hernosand, Sweden, died Tuesday.

He moved the the United States in 1918 and to Coeur d’Alene in 1921.

Mr. Carlson served with the Army in Europe during World War II.

He came back to Spokane in 1942 and received an accounting degree and became a certified public accountant. He worked for various accounting firms before retiring in 1971.

Mr. Carlson was a member of Heritage Congregational Church and the Disabled American Veterans. He was on the board of directors of the Union Gospel Mission.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Violet; and a sister, Bernice Pollock of Chandler, Ariz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Richard Nickloff Spokane

Memorial service for Richard C. Nickloff, 55, was Saturday at Lake Tahoe. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Nickloff, who was born in Santa Monica, Calif., died Oct. 5.

He served in the Navy.

He worked for Hewlett-Packard for nine years.

He was a 17-year resident of the Spokane area and was a member of Valley Fourth Memorial Church and the Mopar Car Club.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Ruth; a son, Scott Nickloff and a daughter, Chris Krebs, both of California; and one grandson.

Edwina Hamberg Priest River, Idaho

Graveside service for Edwina Hamberg, 80, was Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.

Mrs. Hamberg, who was born in Ty Ty, Ga., died Oct. 1.

In 1940 she married William Hamberg in Cut Bank, Mont.

She was a homemaker and a Spokane resident for more then 60 years.

Her husband died in 1979.

Mrs. Hamberg is survived by a daughter, Sandra Cooley of Decatur, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Shanan Harrington Spokane

Memorial service for Shanan Meredith Harrington, 22, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Harvest Fellowship. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Harrington, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Sandpoint.

She attended University High School.

Miss Harrington worked as a certified nurse’s assistant with S&S Health Care.

In 1996, she was employed as a nanny in New Jersey.

She was a member of Grace Harvest Christian Fellowship.

She is survived by her parents, Jim and Marcia Harrington of Spokane; two brothers, Shawn and Ryan Harrington, both of Spokane; and her grandparents, Kenneth and Grace Harrington of Spokane, and Margaret Jokinen of Spokane.

Elvera ‘Bea’ Kelset Colville, Wash.

Service for Elvera J. “Bea” Kelset, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park in Colville.

Mrs. Kelset, a 50-year resident of the Colville area, died Tuesday.

She was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

Mrs. Kelset worked for the Sunset McKee Co. in Spokane for a short time.

In 1931 she married Harold Kelset in Spokane.

They moved to Pendelton, Ore., where she worked as a bookkeeper at the Trading Co. They later moved to Moscow, Idaho, where she was also a bookkeeper.

In 1946 they moved near Colville, where they operated a dairy farm until retirement.

Mrs. Kelset was active in 4-H and was a member of the Greenwood Maids Home Economics Club.

Her husband died in 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Mayhugh of Ephrata, Wash., and Jacqueline Elliott of Apple Valley, Wash.; one brother, Clarence Miller of Redgrove, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Hardy of Davenport, Wash., and Edith Olsen of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia River Christian Academy in Kettle Falls, Wash.

R.H. ‘Frenchy’ Tarquis Coeur d’Alene

Service for R.H. “Frenchy” Tarquis, 88, will be held later in Arizona. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tarquis, who was born in France, died Tuesday.

Mr. Tarquis worked at an ordinance plant in Minnesota during World War II and also helped build the Alaskan Highway.

He had worked with heavy equipment and later moved to Spokane, where he lived for 25 years and worked for Bower Equipment.

After his retirement he lived in both Hope, Idaho, and Arizona before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Ione; a daughter, Betty Curtis of Missouri; a stepson, Ken Brumble of Spokane; two half-sisters, five grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Jay Griffith Medical Lake

Memorial service for Jay Griffith, 55, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church. Ball and Dodd Medical Lake Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Griffith, who was born in Spokane, died Oct. 8.

He was a resident of Lakeland Village.

Mr. Griffith is survived by three sisters, Karen Griffith, Audrey Vanos and Mariam Andrus; and five brothers, Melvin, Ray, Harvey, Marlin and Horace Griffith.

Eugene Harshman Spokane

Service for Eugene Harshman, 86, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Harshman, who was born in Lemont Furnace, Pa., died last Friday.

He served in the Army for 23 years and retired in 1953 as a master sergeant.

Mr. Harshman was a civil service employee at Fairchild Air Force Base from 1953 to 1979.

He was a member of American Legion Post 9.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mia; a son, Hank Harshman of Spokane; a brother, Clyde; three sisters, Evelyn, Edna and Mary Lou; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Eva Kronich Chewelah

Visitation for Eva Colleen Kronich, 84, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. No service will be held, at her request. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kronich, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

Mrs. Kronich had lived in Chewelah for the past year after moving from Spokane.

She worked as a clothing presser for a laundry.

Her husband, Gust Kronich, died in 1994.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Kronich of Chewelah and James Kronich of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Donna Croman of Monroe, Wash.; a brother, Lawrence Skauge of Elk; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Larry Reynolds Oldtown, Idaho

Graveside service for Larry Richard Reynolds, 51, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Reynolds, who died Saturday, was born in Newport.

He graduated in 1964 from Newport High School.

Mr. Reynolds worked as a logger for many years until he retired in 1996.

He was chairman of the board for the Newport Eagles Lodge No. 3443, and was a member of the Newport Gun Club and of the Rivercrest Golf Association in Priest River.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Linda; his mother, Mary Reynolds of Priest River; a brother, Wayne Reynolds of Priest River; and three sisters, Susan Jones of Oldtown, Stephanie Reynolds of Athol, Idaho, and Patsy Williams of Irving, Texas.

Florence Willard Spokane

Private cremation service for Florence C. “Flo” Willard, 75, was held at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Willard, who was born in Crescent, Okla., died Friday.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; a daughter, Carol Siegenthaler of Mead; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Neil McLain Spokane

Graveside service for Neil McLain, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the Waterford. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. McLain, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

He graduated from North Central High School.

Mr. McLain served in the Army in the Panama Canal Zone from 1929 to 1933.

He worked as an aircraft mechanic for Northwest Airlines, Empire Airlines, Hughes Airwest, Republic and West Coast Airlines. He retired in 1975.

Mr. McLain was a member of an aeronautical organization called RARE Group.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; two sons, Bruce McLain of Colville, Wash., and Gregory McLain of Spokane; a sister, Fern Schmidt of Deer Park; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

William ‘Tex’ Wellbrink Spokane

Service for William R. “Tex” Wellbrink, 76, is set for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Moran Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. Wellbrink, who was born in Fort Necessity, La., died Sunday.

He served in the South Pacific with the Navy during World War II. Mr. Wellbrink moved to Spokane in 1956 and worked as a pipefitter for more than 35 years.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral and the Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Renet; three sons, Alex and William Wellbrink Jr., both of Spokane, and Darrell Wellbrink of Foster City, Calif.; three daughters, Winnie Hillock of Foster City, Misty McDuffie of Spokane and Cindy Wellbrink of Mount Aukum, Calif.; a sister, Anna O’Grady of Mulberry, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Virginia Weiler Spokane

Memorial service for Virginia Rose Weiler, 67, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at 601 N. First in Springdale, Wash. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Weiler, who was born in Springdale, died Monday.

She retired from Lakeland Village in Medical Lake as an attendant counselor.

Her husband, Mike Weiler, died in 1988.

She is survived by three sons, Bill and Dave Hooper, both of Medical Lake, and Tom Hooper of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Shirleen Hooper of Spokane; two sisters, Ina Matherly of Springdale and Jeanie Peters of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.
