Book Advises How To Survive In Nyc

The Boston Globe

They’s at it again. “Jackie Mason & Raoul Felder’s Survival Guide to New York City” (Avon, $16) is a followup to an NYC dining guide written by the same dynamic duo. This time, Mason, the comedian, and Felder, the divorce lawyer, give humorous yet practical advice on finding your way in what they call “the most infuriating, frustrating, enervating, baffling, maddening, mystifying, aggravating, unfathomable, threatening, soul-crushing, wonderful city in the world.”

“On Sundays, New York becomes a city of flea markets. The only thing a flea market doesn’t sell is fleas. These, they give away.”

“Never wear short pants or white shoes. These are the uniforms of tourists.”

“Don’t wear socks. This will be absolute proof to a prospective mugger that you have no money.”

Sandwiched in between the humor are actual recommendations about places to visit and others to avoid. And the authors do love their city, proclaiming, “We would never want to live anywhere else.”
