Connie Shorb of York, Pa., shot a 3-over-par 75 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of qualifying in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

Jean Smith of Boise, the 1995 winner, and Judy Oliver of Sewickley, Pa., a three-time Curtis Cup player, were among seven players who are one stroke back.

The low 64 scorers will advance to match play after today’s second round of qualifying.
