Velma Jaques Spokane

Velma B. (Addleman) Jaques, Spokane, is 100 years old today.

Mrs. Jacques was born Oct. 23, 1897, in Sheridan, Wyo., and moved with her parents to the Inland Northwest 95 years ago.

She married the late Charles Jaques in 1918.

Mrs. Jaques was the head of the toddlers department at Hillyard Baptist Church for 44 years, and worked in the business offices at the former Geiger Field and Galena Air Base. She was also a cook for 15 years at Hannings Nursing Home.

The couple had two children: V. Lorraine Birge and Leah Bowen, both of Spokane. She has seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jaques attributes her longevity to family, friends, her love of and God and all people.

An open house to celebrate her birthday will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at Alderwood Manor, where she now lives.
