Dear Heloise: I read an article about a reader with a shirt that was overstarched. I soak overstarched shirts in warm vinegar water!

Here we go, another use for vinegar, which is also good if you are afraid that a new garment may release dye: Before washing, soak in vinegar water. Good old vinegar! - E.M.A., Mesa, Ariz.

You’re right, vinegar has a multitude of uses! The old wives’ tale of using vinegar to “set” colors is still around. However, this method really doesn’t work with the new dyes and fabrics that are on the market today. Many readers still swear it works, though. xxxx
