Chewelah Rolls Past Lakeside

Rushing, passing and defense have lifted Chewelah to the upper ranks of the state’s 2A teams.

The combination surfaced again Friday, as Ryan Walters rushed for 154 yards in the fifth-ranked Cougars’ 38-8 win over visiting Lakeside (3-4, 2-3).

Ryan Gray completed 5 of 11 passes for 99 yards, including three to Chris Eggleston for 64 yards, and Chewelah (7-0, 5-0) held Lakeside to 86 rushing yards on 38 carries.

Lakeside’s Adam Christen completed 5 of 9 for 79 yards.

Chewelah aims to at least tie for the league title on Friday at Medical Lake.

Aaron Carr rushed for 116 yards on 13 carries and the Cardinals (6-1, 4-1) prepared for their upcoming game against Chewelah by blanking the visiting Indians (2-5, 1-4).

Brandon and Vince Moore combined for 17 carries and 140 yards as Medical Lake totaled 356 rushing yards.

Colville finished with 86 rushing yards and 37 passing.

Cole Sheridan rushed for 164 yards on eight carries, and Nate Brown added three receptions for 80 yards for Pullman.

Newport’s Danny Ellersick had five catches for 96 yards.

Troy Patrick rushed for 188 yards on 26 carries and the visiting Rams (3-4, 2-3) turned three of five Deer Park turnovers into scores to defeat the Stags (2-5, 2-3).

Danny Leaf hit 8 of 15 for 73 yards and Paul Gormon had two interceptions for Riverside.

Deer Park’s Brad Martin connected on 13 of 29 for 163 yards, including six to Jesse Frickey for 101 yards.
