Obituaries

Adele Rausch Spokane

Funeral Mass for Ellen Adele Rausch, 57, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mrs. Rausch, who was born in Redding, Calif., died Thursday.

In 1963 she married David Raush in The Dalles, Ore.

She graduated from the University of Portland and worked as a substitute teacher at many Spokane Valley schools.

Mrs. Rausch was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Anthony Rausch of Redmond, Wash.; three daughters, Elaine Rausch of Woodinville, Wash., Monica Rausch of Seattle and Laura Rabey of Spokane; and a sister, Mary Alice McGovern of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research Fund.

Sharon (Morton) Rhea Spokane

Memorial service for Sharon Kay (Morton) Rhea, 54, is pending. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Rhea, who was born in Sandpoint, died Sunday.

She graduated from high school in Libby, Mont.

Mrs. Rhea was a 25-year Spokane resident and worked as a driving instructor for 55 Alive for the American Association of Retired Persons.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Phil; two sons, Scott Stidd of Texas and Terry Stidd of Illinois; three daughters, LaVett Whitney, LaVonne Shaw and Billie Jo Clark, all of Portland; her mother, Vivan Hull of Fairbanks, Alaska; her father, Houston Morton of Libby, Mont.; a sister, Leona Morton of Libby; two half-brothers, Gary and Lee Morton, both of Libby; numerous grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Aubrey Goldsmith Pine Creek, Idaho

Graveside service for Aubrey M. Goldsmith, 90, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Goldsmith, who was born in Minnesota, died Thursday.

He moved to the Silver Valley in the 1940s from Minnesota and worked at the Bunker Hill Zinc Plant for 22 years and then was maintenance supervisor at Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center for three years.

Mr. Goldsmith was a member of the Bunker Hill 20-year Club.

Survivors include his wife, Laura; three children, Aubrea Gilman of Spokane, and Donald Goldsmith and Myrna Bianco, both of Florida; a brother, Ervin Goldsmith of Osburn; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bernice Derr Spokane

Memorial service for Bernice Mae Derr, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Derr, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Oct. 9.

She graduated from North Central High School.

Mrs. Derr worked as an accountant, a bookkeeper and secretary with various companies. She retired from Spokane School District 81, then did volunteer work with the Valley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Her husband, George Derr, died in 1995.

She is survived by a daughter, Dee Anne Hubbard of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Mark Derr; two sisters and two grandsons.

Florence (McMonagle) Sherfey Spokane

Memorial service for Florence Elizabeth (McMonagle) Sherfey, 92, will be at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Rockwood Manor. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Sherfey, who was born in Columbia, N.D., died Tuesday.

She majored in music and literature at the University of Oregon.

Mrs. Sherfey worked for six years as secretary to Eastern Washington University’s director of student placement. She later worked in the downtown Spokane Public Library’s fine arts department.

She taught one year each in Reardan, Wash., and Pomeroy, Wash.

In the 1970’s she wrote a history of Pomeroy titled “Pomeroy’s Pioneers This Was Their Time.” She then wrote another book titled “Eastern Washington’s Vanished Gristmills and the Men Who Ran Them.” She also authored “Wind In His Sails.” a historical biography of Moritz Thomsen the founder of the Spokane Centennial Flour Mills Co.

Mrs. Sherfey helped organize the Spokane Junior Symphony, served on the Community Concert board and was president and a frequent piano player for Friday Musical Club.

She was a member of the Garfield County Historical Society, the Washington State Historical Society and Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Her husband, Dean Sherfey, died in 1962.

Mrs. Sherfey is survived by a daughter, Sue Carter of Oceanside, Ore.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
