Bailey Charged

Compiled From Wire Services

Gold medal-winning Olympic sprinter Donovan Bailey faces motor vehicle charges after he crashed a Mercedes-Benz that he won in the 1995 World Championships.

Bailey was driving in the Toronto suburb at around 3 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which skidded sideways, hit a concrete pole, flipped and caught fire, police said.

A passerby picked up Bailey and drove him home, said the sprinter.

Police said Bailey has been charged with careless driving and leaving an accident scene.
