Mortgage Burning Ceremony Planned At Cheney Methodist
The Cheney United Methodist Church will hold a mortgage burning ceremony during a special combined worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. The service will feature the Rev. Ruth Mathis, District Superintendent.
The church incurred the mortgage in 1986 to build the current sanctuary, which was completed in 1989.
The special service will also double as a dedication service. According to the rules of the United Methodist Church, a sanctuary cannot be dedicated until it is paid for, says Pastor George Abrams. The building was consecrated, blessed and set aside for sacred use when it was completed.
An hors d’oeuvres potluck will follow the service. All are invited to participate in this special day.
The church is located at 204 Fourth Street in Cheney. For more information, call the church office at 235-4600.
