Simmons Lifts Ccs Past Walla Walla

Heidi Simmons scored with five seconds left in the match to give visiting Community Colleges of Spokane a 2-1 women’s soccer victory over Walla Walla Community College, the first loss of the season for the Warriors.

Wednesday’s win put CCS (9-1-4) in position to win the division title with two games remaining. If CCS finishes in a tie with WWCC, the Sasquatch would earn the title based on head-to-head competition with the Warriors. The teams tied in their previous meeting.

On the winning goal, Keri Nichols led Simmons with a perfect pass and Simmons one-touched the ball into the goal.

Walla Walla’s Carrie Redding opened the scoring with a goal in the second half.

Simmons followed up 13 minutes later with a goal on an assist from Holly Vanwert to tie the match.
