Ashley Major To Attend UI On Academic Scholarship

Ashley Major, a 1997 graduate of Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene, recently received an academic scholarship to the University of Idaho.

Major, daughter of Larry and Gena Major of Coeur d’Alene, graduated with high honors and was active in Idaho Drug Free Youth, National Honor Society, Youth Volunteers of America and was selected two consecutive years in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.”

She also served as a student ambassador to Greece and Italy last summer with People to People.

Major will study child psychology.

Joshua Stidman, a senior at Lakeland High School and Spirit Lake resident, recently was chosen to receive a $500 scholarship from the Spirit Lake Lions Club.

Stidman will attend North Idaho College and study culinary arts.

Toby Flesher, Coeur d’Alene, recently graduated magna cum laude (3.6-3.89) from Gonzaga Prep in Spokane.

He will attend the University of Portland this fall.

Flesher, son of Gary and Tina Jalmson of Coeur d’Alene, also received the President’s Education Award and the Washington State Honors Award for ranking in the top 10 percent of the Washington State High School graduating class of 1997.

Sarah Polk, a Post Falls High School and American School of Broadcast graduate, has been named as one of five finalists nationally to compete for scholarships to Eagle University in Hunt, Texas.

Polk, Miss Idaho Teen U.S.A. of 1994 and past recipient of the Idaho Young Adult Community Service Award, took part in the Pageantry Magazine competition based on achievements, community service and written essay.

Michelle Brunner, and Monica Wood, have received scholarships from Professional Secretaries International.

Brunner, a Lakeland High School graduate will receive a $500 scholarship and will attend the secretarial program at North Idaho College this fall.

Wood, is a $250 scholarship recipient and will return to North Idaho College for her second year in the legal secretary program this fall.

Three North Idaho high school graduates have received this year’s Northern Lights’ Educational Scholarships.

Shari Chaney, a Priest River resident will attend her first year at Pacific University near Portland.

Kristi Comer, a Naples resident and Bonners Ferry High School graduate will attend Boise State University.

Erinn Knoten, a Sandpoint resident, hopes to attend Pacific University or Seattle Pacific University.
