Patrick Chicoine Nine Mile Falls

Memorial service for Patrick M. Chicoine, 43, will be at 2 p.m. today at Lakeside High School in Nine Mile Falls. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Chicoine, who was born in Valentine, Neb., died Tuesday.

In 1972 he graduated from Sentinel High School in Missoula. He worked for Albertson Stores from 1969 to 1982.

Mr. Chicoine married Karen Bisom in 1974 in Missoula.

They moved to the Tri-Cities in 1985 and worked at Mel’s Thrift Store until 1987. They then moved to Spokane and he worked at URM.

He attended the University of Montana and was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ryan Chicoine, and a daughter, Renee’ Chicoine, both at home; his mother, Charlotte Chicoine of Lolo, Mont.; a brother, Joel Chicoine of Herndon, Va.; and a sister, Andrea Davis of Pocatello, Idaho.

Bertha Davis Vancouver, Wash.

Memorial service for Bertha Elizabeth Marie (Milde) Alder Davis, 90, was Wednesday at Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel in Vancouver. Burial was at Greenwood Mausoleum.

Mrs. Davis, who was born in Mount Vernon, S.D., died Sunday.

She moved to Spokane in 1935 and married George Davis in 1936.

In 1965 she moved to Long Beach, Calif.

She moved to Idaho Falls in 1994, and moved to Vancouver earlier this year.

Mrs. Davis worked as a sales clerk for many years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, College of Regents of Women of the Moose in Spokane and Gold Star Mothers of America.

Her husband died in 1964.

She is survived by a son, Richard Davis of Phoenix; a daughter, N. Jean Acheson of Cusick, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Georgia Frazier and Peggy Phlepson, both of Seattle; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Dwayne Goodrum Spokane

Service for Dwayne L. Goodrum, 20, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Goodrum, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday from cancer.

He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ.

Survivors include his mother, Gwen Shirihama of Spokane; a brother, Anthony Shirihama of Spokane; and his grandmother, Jean Goodrum of Spokane.

Charles Hansen Florence, Ore.

No service will be held for Charles J. “Chuck” Hansen, 77, at his request. Burn’s Riverside Chapel, Florence Funeral Home and Sluslaw Valley Crematory are in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hansen, who was born in Alder, Mont., died Aug. 21.

He had lived in Spokane since 1942 and worked as a sales representative for Owens Corning Company where he retired.

He moved to Florence in 1986.

Mr. Hansen was a member of the Florence Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Catherine.

Memorial contributions may be made to Casey Eye Clinic through the Florence Elks Lodge.

George Knapp Coeur d’Alene

Private family graveside service for George M. Knapp, 65, will be held at a later date in Argenta, Mont. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Knapp, who was born in Argenta, died Thursday.

He was a longtime Coeur d’Alene resident and was the owner of Knapp Trucking of Coeur d’Alene, retiring in 1996.

Mr. Knapp was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Coeur d’Alene Second Ward and also served as a stake missionary.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Hazel; four daughters, Susan Pew of Poulsbo, Wash., Rebecca Hoeche of Spokane, Beverly Knapp of Coeur d’Alene and Debbie Brown of Post Falls; a brother, Jack Knapp of Montana; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Donald ‘Don’ Staudt Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Donald G. “Don” Staudt, 63, will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery.

Mr. Staudt, who was born in Kellogg, died Thursday.

He grew up in Kellogg and graduated from Kellogg High School before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1953.

Mr. Staudt returned to Kellogg in 1957 after his military service and lived there until moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1990.

He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg, the Kellogg Elks and the Wallace-Kellogg Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Starlene; a son, Doug Staudt of Richland; a daughter, Sabrena Fry of California; and two grandchildren.

Devin Stuhlmiller Cheney

Service for Devin D. Stuhlmiller, 21, was Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment will follow at a later date.

Mr. Stuhlmiller, who was born in Spokane, died Aug. 24 from a heart condition.

He worked for the Job Corps and was a welder. He later worked as a tree cutter for Ardvark Tree Service.

Mr. Stuhlmiller also worked as a track setter for the railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Danetta of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Shannon Carpenter, and two stepsons, Jared and Christian Carpenter, all of Spokane; his mother, Jackie Wilkinson of Cheney; his father, Orlin Stuhlmiller of Pasco; a sister, Carey Stuhlmiller of Spokane; and two brothers, Jesse and Cody Wilkinson, both of Cheney.

Louise Newell Spokane

No service will be held for Louise E. Newell, 72. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of the arrangements and cremation.

Mrs. Newell, who was born Lewellen, Neb., died Wednesday.

In 1943 she graduated from West Valley High School.

Mrs. Newell worked as a secretary from 1979 to 1983 for Black Angus. She later worked as a secretary for Kestell Real Estate until her retirement in 1990.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Samuel; a daughter, Sherrie Wood of Spokane; three sisters, Leah Row and Karen Bates, both of Wenatchee, and Doris Blanton of California; and one grandson.

Charles Lavelle Deer Park

Vigil service for Charles M. “Chuck” Lavelle, 72, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Butte, Mont., Mr. Lavelle died Thursday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He worked in construction as a diamond driller in Butte and spent 20 years in the chemical business. He worked in advertising for the Post Standard newspaper in Butte and worked for Cowles Publishing Co. from 1971 until 1984.

He had lived in Deer Park since 1970.

Mr. Lavelle was a partner in the development of Deer Meadows with L & J Enterprises.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marian; a son, Michael Lavelle of Yakima; a daughter, Lisa Kendall of Cupertino, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Eleanor Paton Spokane

Memorial service for Eleanor Blanche Paton, 81, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairwood Village Retirement Resort. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Seattle, Mrs. Paton died Thursday.

She graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Unity Church, Deer Park American Association of Retired Persons, Fairwood Village Retirement Resort and various garden clubs. She also served as secretary for the Deer Lake Property Owners Association.

Her husband, William, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Jim Paton of Deer Park; a daughter, Cheryl Liedke of Everett; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Parkinsons Educational Program.

Clara Totusek Odessa, Wash.

Visitation for Clara Totusek, 93, will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Strate Funeral Home in Odessa. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bohemian Cemetery in Odessa.

Mrs. Totusek, who was born in Odessa, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Odessa High School in 1923.

In 1930 she married Mirsolav Totusek in Ritzville, Wash.

She worked at the Odessa Union for a year before receiving her teaching degree from Cheney Normal College.

Mrs. Totusek taught school in Irby, Wash.

Her memberships included Heritage United Christian Church and the Royal Neighbors.

Her husband died in 1960.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Florence Jayne Valley, Wash.

Service for Florence Wilma Jayne, 67, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Valley Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jayne, a 30-year Valley resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Kansas and grew up and farmed in Colorado.

She lived in the Seattle area for a short time and then moved to Valley.

Mrs. Jayne ran the Ramble Inn in Valley for five years.

Memberships included the Crossroads Community Church.

Her first husband, Richard, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; two sons, Dale Tillinghast of Athol, Idaho, and Harold Tillinghast of Lewisville, Texas; three daughters, Alice Ely of Valley, Dorthey Knight of Phoenix and Joyce Norman of Springdale, Wash.; three stepdaughters, Anna Higgs of Grand Junction, Colo., Virginia Holloway of Silver City, N.M., and Beth Hubbard of Brea, Calif.; a stepson, Fred Jayne Jr. of Edmonds, Wash.; a brother, Roy Watts of Dallas; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Francis Adley Medical Lake

Vigil service for Francis M. Adley, 78, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Medical Lake. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane.

Mr. Adley, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

He had farmed all his life in the Spokane area and was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

He received numerous trophies for his ballroom dancing.

Mr. Adley is survived by a brother, Cyril Reynolds of Cheney; and a sister, Rosemary Thomas of Richmond, Va.

Kenneth Johnston Nine Mile Falls

Service for Kenneth W. Johnston, 59, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Spokane Third Ward. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnston, who died Tuesday, was born Ogden, Utah.

He had lived in a Spokane since 1972.

Mr. Johnston was a golf professional since 1962 and owned Sundance Golf course for the past 20 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Spokane Third Ward, and the Professional Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; a son K. Scott Johnston of Spokane; three daughters, Dalana Ostile and Shelly Price, both of of Nine Mile Falls and Trisha Jamison of Yakima; his mother, Oleta Johnston of Odgen; four brothers, Bill and Robert Johnston, both of Phoenix, Leslie Johnston of San Diego and Dennis Johnston of Spokane; two sisters, Jonnie Fenstermaker of Odgen and Beverly Baily of Phoenix; and 11 grandchildren.

Edgar Walker Rock Creek, Idaho

Graveside service for Edgar H. Walker, 93, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rock Creek Cemetery south of Potlatch, Idaho. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Walker, who was born in Hanley Falls, Minn., died Thursday.

He worked for the Potlatch Lumber Company in the box factory at the Potlatch Mill. He retired in 1969 after 53 years as a greenchain operator at the mill.

Survivors include a brother, Leo Walker of Florence, Ore.; and two sisters, Hallie Goodrich of Colfax and Callie Trummel of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund.

Carrie Jewett Spokane

Private inurnment will be held for Carrie M. Jewett, 91, at Riverside Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jewett, who was born in Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday.

She previously lived in Coeur d’Alene for 25 years and was a 10-year Spokane resident.

She owned and managed George’s Radiator Shop with her husband George. They also owned Coeur d’Alene Manor.

Her husband died in 1971.

Survivors include a brother, Harold Chapman of Spokane.
