Rice Likely Done For Rest Of Season
At first, the feeling was Jerry Rice could just shake it off and resume his dazzling career as if nothing had happened.
After all, the NFL’s greatest receiver had weathered thousands of hits and always came back to play. He insists he can do that again, only it apparently will be next year.
Rice underwent surgery Monday to repair his seriously damaged left knee and will be sidelined up to six months, San Francisco 49ers coach Steve Mariucci said. Until now, the 34-year-old star had never missed a game because of injury in his 13 seasons.
Mariucci said an MRI test showed that Rice tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee as well as cartilage when he was tackled by Warren Sapp during the second quarter of the 49ers’ season-opening 13-6 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday.
