Burn Reaches Final
Jorge Flores scored 13 minutes into extra time and sent the Dallas Burn to the U.S. Open Cup final with a 2-1 victory over fellow Major League Soccer club New York-New Jersey at New York.
The victory put the Burn in the championship game of America’s oldest tournament, which started in 1914, against either defending champion Washington or the third-division San Francisco Bay Seals.
The British government demanded that Scottish soccer authorities explain their decision to hold a World Cup qualifying game in Aberdeen on the afternoon of Princess Diana’s funeral.
