Dollar Turns In Mixed Performance

The dollar was mixed against other major currencies Thursday, barely higher against the yen as U.S.-Japan trade tensions grew and lower against the mark on the possibility of a German interest rate hike.

The dollar rallied late in the session after influential economist C. Fred Bergsten predicted it could rise above 127 yen without U.S. government intervention.

The dollar had been held back earlier by a report on Japan’s higher trade surplus and U.S. sanctions against Japan’s three largest shipping companies.
