Schrempf Has Surgery
Seattle SuperSonics forward Detlef Schrempf underwent surgery to repair a bone in his left hand and his status for the start of the regular season is uncertain.
Schrempf broke the third metacarpal bone on his non-shooting hand on Feb. 5 in a game against Utah. He reinjured the hand in an All-Star exhibition game last month in Japan. He is expected to be out of action 6-8 weeks, the team said. The regular season opens Oct. 31.
The Philadelphia 76ers have signed power forward Terry Cummings, a 15-year NBA veteran and former Sonic, to a two-year contract.
The Utah Jazz have signed Nate Erdmann, their second-round draft pick. Erdmann played at Washington State University before transferring to Oklahoma.
The Dallas Mavericks signed free-agent shooting guard Hubert Davis to a six-year contract.
NBA referee Henry Armstrong pleaded guilty in Norfolk, Va., to filing false federal income tax returns, the third official convicted on the charge since July 30.
