So, Where’s Huggy Bear And The ‘74 Ford Torino?

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Fans of ‘70s culture had hoped that rumors of a “Starsky and Hutch” reunion episode were true. But like the return of flared jeans and leisure suits, it just ain’t true.

Stars Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul say no way, no how.

Glaser followed the 1975-79 run of the show by acting in such movies as “Phobia” and “Single Bars, Single Women.” More recently, he has been a director of such films as “The Air Up There” and “Kazaam.”

Soul, on the other hand, is following in the steps of “Baywatch” guy David Hasselhoff. He’s just released his fifth album in Europe.

“I had to get out of L.A.,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It was like being at a bad party.” As for Glaser, he said, “I’m not one for going back. I love David. We had a great dance. But that’s the past.”

Loose talk

Arnold Schwarzenegger on being a husband to Maria Shriver: “I walked up the aisle as Conan the Barbarian and walked down as Arnold the Meek. Now I do what my wife tells me. I wash up, make the bed and sometimes cook.”

Flashback: ‘One Million Years B.C.’

Raquel Welch turns 57 today.

But he still had to show some identification

Former presidential candidate Bob Dole was succinct in his thanks over being given an award Wednesday by the American Legion. “Well, I finally won something,” Dole said.

Say, is that the driveway that borders Jurassic Park?

When Hollywood’s Motion Picture and Television Fund renamed a driveway to its convalescent home, it did so for good reason. “It is being named Spielberg Drive as Steven Spielberg is an important supporter of the Motion Picture Fund,” said L.A. councilman Richard Alarcon.

Howard’s got a new gig, making French fries

Howard Stern has miffed Montreal’s French-speakers. Shortly into his first broadcast from the Canadian city, the shock-jock giggled at Quebec residents who “think that somehow speaking French is like the most important thing in the world.” Serge Menard, the provincial justice minister, immediately began studying whether he could charge Stern with violating Quebec’s laws against “hate-mongering.”

Though, let’s face it, it wasn’t the queen’s English

The plethora of news reports involving the sad death of Princess Diana have included a wide range of comments, from the scintillatingly perceptive to the absurdly clueless. Leah Garchik of the San Francisco Chronicle passes on the following, which falls somewhere in between: “A CNN reporter opined Monday that Princess Diana was so appealing to Americans because ‘she spoke English.”’

We will, when they stop making those ‘lousy’ movies

Following in the for-the-moment backlash against the celebrity press, actors Rod Steiger and Alan Rickman - both of whom are in attendance at the Montreal Film Festival - are encouraging people to stop buying those “lousy” celebrity magazines.
