Manilow Scheduled To Play The Arena

Excuse me if I have trouble containing my excitement. Barry Manilow is coming to the Spokane Arena.

Yes, that’s right, Mr. I-Write-The-Songs himself will play the Arena on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets will cost $39.75 and $29.75 and will go on sale Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. through G&B Select-a-Seat.

Manilow has the dual distinction of being a tremendously popular recording artist as well as a routinely reviled one. Let’s put it this way: Manilow has a lot in common with Neil Diamond.

However, there has been a Manilow revival of late. And in last week’s “Guilty Pleasures” issue of Entertainment Weekly, Manilow is prominently featured on the list of “Currently Scorned Pop-Culture Targets Soon To Be Reborn as Guilty Pleasures.”

Barry lives!

By the way, here are a few other shows just announced for the Arena:

Patty Loveless and Bryan White - Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., tickets on sale Sept. 15, 10 a.m.

Mark Chesnutt - Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m., tickets on sale Sept. 29.

Discover Stars On Ice - Jan. 4, 7 p.m., tickets on sale Nov. 17, 10 a.m.

Disney on Ice: The Spirit of Pocahontas - Dec. 25-29, on-sale date to be announced.

Champions On Ice - June 13, 8 p.m., on-sale date to be announced.

A gala Spokane premiere

“Love Always,” the Marisa Ryan-Moon Zappa-Beverly d’Angelo movie partially filmed in Spokane two years ago, will have a gala premiere at the Fox Theatre on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

Only those with invitations can attend this special screening, but everyone will get a chance to see it when it is released in 20 cities in October. Spokane will be one of those cities.

Spokane plays a key part in this road movie. Ryan plays a young woman who journeys from San Diego to Spokane to find the man she thinks might be her true love (Michael Reilly Burke)

Jude Eberhard, the writer-director, and Isaac Artenstein, the producer, will be in attendance. They are staging a number of “premieres” in cities up and down the West Coast, including L.A. and San Francisco.

Best of Broadway notes

Just a couple of brief additions to last week’s item about the Best of Broadway touring season:

“West Side Story” has already been extended by four more performances, two each on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2. That brings the total to eight performances from Oct. 28-Nov. 2.

Also, the added matinee for “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat” on Dec. 16 at 10:30 a.m., is not just for school groups. Individuals can buy tickets, too, through G&B Select-a-Seat.
