Falling Rocks Hamper Cleanup Of Landslide
Rocks still tumbling onto U.S. Highway 95 are hampering efforts to clear a landslide that covered the roadway last week, the Idaho Transportation Department said Monday.
Crews cleared the shoulder on Saturday to allow one lane of travel through the slide area, about 15 miles north of Riggins.
Flaggers continued directing motorists through the area Monday, slowing traffic along the highway.
A 350-foot rock slide covered the highway, Idaho’s only north-south route, Thursday evening.
A trip between Lewiston and Boise while the highway was closed required a 360-mile detour through Oregon and Washington.
Motorists can listen to recorded updates on the highway’s condition by calling (208) 336-6600.
