Mt. Spokane Loses In Lengthy Gsl Debut

Tuesday marked the first appearance by Mt. Spokane High in Greater Spokane League athletics.

The Wildcats and their opponent, North Central, nearly stretched the festivities into Wednesday.

Beth White’s 35 assists and Amber Carter’s 24 digs rallied visiting NC to a 14-16, 12-15, 17-15, 15-12, 15-11 triumph in a 3-hour volleyball opener.

The Wildcats, limited to a roster of eight, led the third game 12-9 before the Indians bounced back.

“Our problem throughout the night was letting NC back in,” said Wildcats coach Bridget Monahan.

A large, vocal crowd dwindled as the match stretched on.

Brandi Graham led Mt. Spokane with 18 digs and four aces. NC’s Nicole Bostic added nine kills and four aces.

Mt. Spokane, a new school built to ease overcrowding at Mead High, is competing in varsity volleyball and cross country during the autumn. The football team won’t attempt a GSL varsity schedule until next year, when the school has its first senior class.
