New Jacklin Site Lands UI As Tenant

Jacklin Properties started construction this week on a 35,600-square-foot building at its commerce park in Post Falls.

“The Jacklins’ three other buildings there are full,” said project manager Pat Leffel on Tuesday. “We’ve had this building planned for some time.”

The University of Idaho announced it will lease 7,500 square feet in the “Kaniksu” building as an interim site for several of its programs.

In the fall, the UI will begin construction with Jacklin Land Co. on the Riverbend Research and Training Park adjacent to the new Kaniksu building. The Idaho Water Resources Research Institute, Techhelp and several other industry-related UI programs will locate in Post Falls when the training park is finished. In the meantime, the UI will begin recruiting and planning for its larger park from the building now under construction.

“I see this new building as being a quick way to establish the University of Idaho’s presence in Post Falls while getting financing and tenants to build the UI’s research park in 1998,” said Doug McQueen, the new director hired to oversee the Riverbend Research and Training Park.

Contractors Northwest Inc. of Coeur d’Alene is developing the building, with Ferman J. Pasold as architect. The $1 million-to-$2 million structure is expected to be complete by the end of November.
