Indy 500 Qualifying Reportedly Being Cut To Two Days
Qualifications for the 1998 Indianapolis 500 will be cut from the traditional four days to two, and drivers will get less practice time, Indianapolis television stations reported Wednesday.
The changes also include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opening a week later next year, with practice beginning May 9 and wrapping up May 15. Qualifications for the pole position would be held May 16 under the changes, and the second day of qualifications would be May 17.
The 1998 race is scheduled for May 24.
