Ready To Rumble Gsl Football Gets Off To A Big Start Friday As Powerhouses Meet.

The 1997 Greater Spokane League football season begins with a bang, not a whimper.

Lewis and Clark and Ferris face stern opposition when they take on coaches’ league favorites in their season openers.

Tonight, two of the league’s perennial top four finishing teams, the Tigers and Gonzaga Prep, play the 7:30 p.m. feature game at Albi Stadium.

Friday, Ferris opens the Albi doubleheader at 5:45 p.m. against a Central Valley team that is the consensus favorite to win the league.

While first-round GSL games count in the standings and toward the end-of-season playoffs, three other schools, Cheney, Medical Lake and Liberty, will be in action against non-league opponents.

The Blackhawks, members of the four-team Frontier League, play at Post Falls in their opener. Medical Lake hosts West Valley and Liberty renews a longtime rivalry when the Lancers travel to Freeman.
