Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I read your column every day. I’d like to share one of my homemaking hints.

Keep small pliers in a kitchen drawer. They are wonderful for opening up tabs on soft-drink cans and for grasping cellophane seals on cottage cheese and dip.

This is a bonus for anyone with loss of feeling in the hands. Pliers are the greatest gadget in the kitchen. - K. Rathmann, San Antonio, Texas Dear Heloise: This is for the person with the bad odor coming from her garbage disposal. It may not be true of all disposals, but the rubber gasket in mine pulls out for easy cleaning.

I use an old toothbrush to scrub it and then I use it to scrub the inside of the disposal opening before I replace the gasket. It’s amazing how much gunk gets trapped under the gasket! - K.O., Penfield, N.Y.
