Arson Suspected In Stolen-Car Fire

A fire that consumed a car reported stolen by a Coeur d’Alene man appears to have been intentionally set late Monday near Rathdrum, Idaho.

Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies found two styles of footprints leading away from the white 1991 Chevrolet Camaro.

Firefighters told deputies they discovered a trail of burned gasoline leading to the car. One of the car’s front tires also had been removed and placed under the hood to add fuel to the fire, according to the report.

Deputies determined the car was registered to Shayne McCarthy, 21, Coeur d’Alene. McCarthy had reported his car stolen Sunday in Spokane.
