Regardless of what the adage professes, there IS a free lunch. All you have to do to get one is join the Inland Empire Nordic Club on Sunday for a day of volunteer work clearing cross country ski trails at Mount Spokane.
Meet at 9 a.m. at Selkirk Lodge, the log warming shelter at the SnoPark parking area. Bring chain saws (with protective gear), heavy duty weed whackers, buck saws, shovels, pruners, or at least gloves, hats, boots and water.
Other trail maintenance parties are scheduled for Oct. 5 and Oct. 18, although the club has not organized a free lunch for those.
