Deputy Recovers After Shootout

Associated Press

A Phillips County deputy sheriff wounded in a campground shootout that left two people dead might be released from the hospital today, the sheriff’s department said.

Brian Robinson, a Phillips County deputy for only a few weeks, was listed in stable condition Saturday at the Central Montana Medical Center in Lewistown. Robinson, in his mid-30s, was taken there after the shootout Friday at a campground near Landusky, a mining town in north-central Montana.

Robinson received wounds to the upper leg or legs, Undersheriff Tom Miller said.

Autopsies on the two killed were under way Saturday, and a female suspect in the case was in the Phillips County jail at Malta, Miller said.

The shootings occurred as Robinson responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle, Miller said.
