Earl Bennett Named Dean Of UI College Of Mines And Earth Resources

Earl H. Bennett, University of Idaho geology professor and associate director of the Idaho Geological Survey and geologist for the state, has been named the new Dean of the UI College of Mines and Earth Resources (COMER).

Bennett, who joined the UI faculty in 1977, earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Delaware and holds a master’s degree in geology from North Carolina State University and a Ph.D. in geology from UI.

He succeeds former COMER Dean Robert Bartlett, who retired this spring.

J. D. Williams, Idaho state controller, has been honored as the only state controller in the nation to receive a President’s Award of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) at its annual national conference held recently.

Williams, who was also recognized as a leader in developing electronic benefits transfers to reduce the cost of the state for paying welfare benefits, was cited for significant contributions to financial management in government at his position.

He was also recognized for efforts as the chairman of NASACT’s Governmental Accounting Standards Board Committee to build a consensus for a new national financial reporting model for state and local government.

The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce gingerbread house float “Home Sweet Home,” won first place in the Lewiston Round-up Parade.

The float, built entirely by community volunteers, featured Post Falls Junior Miss Jaime Johnson and Junior Miss Representatives Crystal Vancho and Krysta Ducommon.

The float is scheduled to appear at the University of Idaho Homecoming Parade in October and the Coeur d’Alene Festival of Lights Parade in November.
