No Humor In Nebraska
If you don’t have something nice to say about Nebraska, Gov. Ben Nelson says you shouldn’t say anything at all.
Nelson said Monday that some sportswriters have been making fun of the state instead of focusing on football. He cited, for one, comments by Seattle Post Intelligencer columnist Art Thiel.
“Other than being the ideal spot if the United States needs to insert a continental drain, there is not a great deal to recommend Nebraska and its football team,” Thiel wrote.
“I think it’s something that goes beyond humor,” said Nelson, an NU alum and college football fan. “It is bothersome that someone would think that is appropriate.”
Told of the comments, Thiel replied, “It’s remarkable that the gubernatorial bloomers are bunched just as tightly as the rest of Nebraska citizens. I guess his absence of humor on college football again makes the point that Nebraskans remain in desperate need of alternative amusement.”
