Five years ago: A judge in Orlando, Fla., ruled in favor of Gregory Kingsley, a 12-year-old boy seeking a “divorce” from his biological parents. Also, the Mars Observer blasted off on a $980 million mission to Mars. (The probe disappeared just before entering Martian orbit in August 1993.)
One year ago: Stone-throwing protests by thousands of Palestinians angered by Israel’s decision to open an archaeological tunnel near Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque compound led to battles with Israeli troops in which seven people died.
