Stolen Car, Drugs Turn Up When Police Perform Search

A police search for a stolen car ended up resulting in a marijuana bust and arrests for a possible stolen car ring.

On Sept. 17, police responded to a complaint from a woman who said she believed her stolen car was at the rear of a home at 3824 E. Broad, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

After contacting the resident of the address, the man gave officers permission to search the house.

Officers found six cars in the back yard in various stages of disrepair, Cottam said.

The vehicle identification number on a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro matched that of the woman’s car. Officers said it had been stripped of various parts, Cottam said.

Terry D. Warner, 29, had three confirmed warrants for his arrest and was taken into custody, Cottam said. Police obtained a search warrant for the house and found marijuana plants, a grow light, potting soil and a fan in the bathroom, said Cottam.

Police also found an assortment of drug items and packaged marijuana. A large chest housed more than 100 marijuana pipes, Cottam said.

Car parts, believed to be stolen, equipment to disassemble vehicles, machine parts and pawn tickets for other items were also found, according to Cottam.

Douglas E. McGowen, 27, was also booked into jail. Cottam said McGowen and Warner were booked on possession of stolen property and possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance.

Police are continuing the investigation.

Police nab robber, seek second suspect

Police arrested one of two men who robbed a convenience store early Saturday morning.

A clerk told police the two men entered Your Quick Stop at 3219 N. Nevada at 12:45 a.m. One man went to the register to pay for a 12 pack of beer while the other grabbed a case and ran from the store, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

Witnesses gave police the car’s license plate number after the two men drove away. Police found Michael A. Walker, 22, with the vehicle along the 1400 block of West Chelan, Cottam said.

Walker was booked into jail for first-degree robbery. Police are looking for the second man, Cottam said.
