Boxer Johnny Montantes was in critical condition at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas following brain surgery after he was knocked out by James Crayton Friday night in the main event at The Orleans.

Veteran sprint star Victor Cooley ended a string of five straight second-place finishes when he won the $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park in New York.
