Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: For the last few years I’ve been purchasing food for the local animal shelter and food pantry. Each week I buy two cans each of cat food and dog food. I also buy two nonperishable food items such as pasta, sauce and veggies for the local food pantry. It adds up fast and doesn’t really add much to my grocery bill.

I keep track of what I buy and donate and have the agency verify it. It can be used as a tax deduction.

Even buying one food item and one can of cat or dog food each week would help a lot. Many groups will come to pick up the donations if you accumulate a reasonable amount.

Please don’t forget your local animal shelter! - A Reader

You are so right, it sure adds up to a lot. When you pick up just one or two things at a time, it doesn’t seem to hurt the wallet and sure does a lot of good. - Heloise
