Dollar Up Against Pound

The dollar strengthened against the pound as traders worried the British currency would weaken if the country joined Europe’s planned common currency.

The dollar was mixed against other major currencies in thin trading ahead of German and U.S. central bank meetings Tuesday on whether to raise interest rates. Japan also releases data expected to show further weakness in its economy.
