Leagues Honor Stinson, Exner

Washington State is off to a school-record 16-0 start in volleyball, has a share of the Pacific-10 Conference lead at 4-0 and a No. 6 national ranking. Now the Cougars have a Pacific-10 Conference player of the week, too.

Jennifer Stinson, a junior from Davenport, is the Cougars’ first conference weekly award winner after leading WSU past No. 7 Southern California and No. 18 UCLA in Bohler Gym last week.

Although this is Stinson’s first weekly honor and WSU’s first of the season, it is the school’s 15 all-time.

Stinson had 34 kills, three assists and 18 blocks while commiting just 13 errors in 76 attacks. She has a conference-high 102 blocks, and is No. 2 in the Pac-10 with an average of 1.85 blocks per game.

For the second time this season, Eastern Washington’s Kim Exner is the Big Sky Conference player of the week, sharing it with Northern Arizona’s Jenny Treglown.

Eastern, 10-2 overall and leading the Big Sky with a 4-0 mark, swept Montana and Montana State last week as Exner recorded 34 kills, 16 digs and 13 blocks to go along with a .307 hitting percentage.

A junior middle blocker, Exner became the fourth player in Eastern history to surpass 1,000 kills in her career. She hit it in the first game against Montana.

University of Idaho junior Jessica Moore is the Big West Conference player of the week. Against Utah State and Nevada, the middle blocker had 26 kills, 13 digs, seven blocks and a .353 attack percentage.
