Area Office Expects No Changes

The proposed merger of Citicorp and Travelers Group Inc. will not affect the rapidly growing Spokane office of Travelers Property Casualty, General Manager Kathy Whitman said Monday.

Company officials participating in a national conference call indicated the focus of the new financial behemoth would be expansion of its banking, brokerage and insurance services into international markets, she said.

“There won’t be any changes that we can see,” Whitman said. “We will continue to do what we’re going to do.”

She said she does not know what service centers Citicorp operates that are similar to the one opened in Spokane in January.

Local employment has already climbed to around 130, she said, slightly ahead of a schedule that calls for a total of 500 within a few years.

The Travelers office is located in The Crescent Court building.
