Broussard Sets Ewu 400 Record

Seville Broussard broke her school record in the 400-meter run to highlight Eastern Washington’s day at the Al Manuel Invitational at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Broussard ran 59.27, the fourth-fastest in Big Sky Conference history, an NCAA provisional mark and better than the 59.60 she ran last year. Broussard also won the 100 hurdles in 14.15 and placed second in the high jump at 5 feet, 4-1/4 inches. Her efforts led EWU to dual wins over Montana, Montana State and Portland State. Idaho State defeated EWU 113-81.

EWU’s men went 2-2, with wins over Montana and Portland State. Eagles winners were Mike Dwyer, 110 hurdles, 14.76; Andre Ervin, high jump, 6-11-3/4; Tim Archer, triple jump, 48-4-1/2; Aaron Williams, javelin, 204-2; and the 400 relay team, 41.29.

Montana State’s John Wurtz became the first athlete in Big Sky history to pole vault better than 18 feet, hitting 18-1/4. Wurtz broke his conference record of 17-6, set two years ago.
