Post Falls Receives Third Phone Prefix

GTE has begun using a new telephone prefix in the Post Falls area: 457.

The new prefix is Post Falls’ third, joining 773 and 777. The new prefix will provide about 10,000 new phone numbers, filling demand brought on by population growth, modems, pagers, cell phones, and business needs for large groups of consecutive numbers, said Chrin Tarola, GTE’s Idaho operations manager in Coeur d’Alene.

GTE also will continue to assign requests for new numbers to the old prefixes, when numbers are available.

Businesses with private phone systems that are used to call to or from Post Falls may need to have them reprogrammed to recognize the new prefix, Tarola said.
