Rose Meier Spokane

Funeral Mass for Rose Meier, 89, was held Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, N.D. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery, Devils Lake.

Mrs. Meier, who was born in Orin, N.D., died Wednesday.

She married Mike Meier in 1924, and they moved to Devils Lake.

Her husband died in 1960, and Mrs. Meier moved to Spokane in 1962.

Mrs. Meier was a member of St. Aloysius Church for 36 years and a member of Ladies Altar Society of Spokane.

Survivors include four daughters, Marge Graftaas and Bernice Bailey, both of Spokane, and Betty Brown and Ilean Johnson, both of Butte, Mont.; four sons, Dick Meier, Rainier, Ore., Bob Meier and Mike Meier, both of Devils Lake, and Ben Meier; two sisters, Mary Guernsey of Spokane and Ruth Martin of Minneapolis; 30 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Raymond Ivrin Cheney

Funeral service for Raymond M. Irvin, 76, will be Friday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, Ky. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, Mount Herman, Ky. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Irvin, who was born in Ferrum, Va., died Saturday.

He served as a senior master sergeant in the Air Force until his retirement in 1965. He earned a Distinguished Flying Cross and Silver Star during World War II and also was a survivor of Pearl Harbor.

He was a resident of the area for 40 years.

Mr. Irvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, Ray Irvin Jr. of Indianapolis and Kirby Irvin of Spokane; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Waldon Isham Spokane

No service for Waldon Eugene “Wally” Isham, 63, will be held at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Isham, who was born in Grants Pass, Ore., died Friday.

He was retired from the Air Force Mr. Isham moved to Spokane in 1972 and was a manager of a mini storage business.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; three daughters, Carrie Isham, Debbie Garberg and Shannon Ennis, all of Spokane; a son, Steven Doyle of Montana; a brother, Robert Isham of Grants Pass a sister, Louise Mason, of Grants Pass; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Asthma Foundation.

Clarence ‘Bob’ Nyberg Spokane

Memorial service for Clarence Robert “Bob” Nyber, 90, will be 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home, Chapel of Flowers.

Mr. Nyberg, who was born in Cripple Creek, Colo., died Sunday.

He moved his family to Greenacres in 1918 and lived there for several years before moving into Spokane.

Mr. Nyberg married Ardis Witters in 1935.

He worked as a businessman in Spokane and sold real estate for 16 years before his retirement.

Mr. Nyberg was a member of the Gleemen singing group of the Moose Lodge, Audubon Park Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Wandermere Golf Club and Glad Tidings Church.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol Quigley of Spokane and Marilyn Holmes of Hawaii; two sons, Robert Nyberg of Spokane and David Nyberg of Elk; four sisters; one brother; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

C. Lark Smith Harrington, Wash.

Rosary for C. Lark Smith, 94, will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Harrington. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington.

Mr. Smith, who was born in Telford, Wash., died Saturday.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Doris, Belva and Lola.

Mr. Smith had farmed and was a member of the Davenport Senior Center.

He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Rees of Harrington; a sister, Leila VanMartre of Yakima; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Cemetery Maintenance Fund or the Odessa Convalescent Center Memorial Fund.

Robert Healy Spokane

Vigil service for Robert S. Healy, 94, will be at 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral home, Rose Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Healy, who was born in Anaconda, Mont., died Wednesday.

He had lived in Spokane since 1932.

Mr. Healy worked as a sign painter and artist.

He was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sara; a son, Ryan Healy of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Fred Hinz Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Fred Hinz Sr., 85, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Hinz, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Ione, Wash., and later entered the Army Air Corps and served during World War II.

Mr. Hinz settled in the Enaville, Idaho, area and worked as a logger until becoming a filer for Potlatch in 1964.

Mr. Hinz retired in 1977 and settled in Arizona until returning to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Hinz; a son, Fred Hinz Jr. of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Judy Nuxoll of Newman Lake; a brother, Henry Hinz of Spokane; two sisters, Mamie McCall of Arlington, Wash., and Lillian Lutz of North Carolina; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Brian Knisley Spokane

Visitation for Brian A. Knisley, 20, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Knisley, who was born in Pasco, died Saturday.

He was a graduate of East Valley High School.

Mr. Knisley was a goodwill ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for a year.

He was a member of PercussionNaut Patriots and the National Honor Society.

Survivors include his father and mother, Larry and Sherry Knisley of Spokane; a sister, Kathy Knisley of Spokane; his grandmother, Dolores Fallis of Spokane; and his grandfather, Al Belter of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Wishing Star Foundation.

Edward ‘Eddie’ Pierson Spokane

Visitation for Edward O. “Eddie” Pierson, 89, will be today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Pierson, who was born in Marion, Ind., died Saturday.

He worked as a meat cutter before serving as a Seabee during World War II. After the military, he owned several clubs and lounges in Priest River, Idaho, and Spokane.

Mr. Pierson was a resident of the area for 70 years.

His wife, Hazel, preceded him in death.

Mr. Pierson was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51.

Survivors include several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Mary McCorkle Spokane

Memorial service for Mary McCorkle, 58, will be at 7 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mrs. McCorkle, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

She married Clayton McCorkle in 1971, and they moved to the Seattle area in 1976. They returned to Spokane in 1988.

Mrs. McCorkle worked as a bus driver for Central Valley School District.

Her husband died in 1992.

Survivors include six sons, Clayton McCorkle of Portland, Doug and Russ McCorkle, both of Spokane, Pat Crosby of Tacoma, and David and Matthew Crosby, both of Spokane; a daughter, Lynn Crosby of Nevada; three brothers, Robert, Michael and Charles Beck, all of Spokane; and four sisters, Dorothy Roberts of Port Orchard, Kathleen Ilcken of Portland, Margaret “Peggy” Johnson of Spokane and Anita Whiteaker of Cheney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Alan Denson Davenport, Wash.

Funeral service for Alan F. Denson, 74, will be at 1 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.

Mr. Denson, who was born in Davenport, died Saturday.

He owned and operated a sporting goods store in Ashland, Ore., and worked many years as a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy. He later worked in the Lincoln County Auditor’s Office. Mr. Denson retired from the state of Washington Department of Motor Vehicles.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Harriot Denson of Davenport; two nephews, Richard Denson of Medical Lake and Gregory Denson of Vallejo, Calif.; and two cousins, Keith Denson of Bridgeport, Wash., and Carol Mulahay of San Diego, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Davenport Swimming Pool Fund.
