NEW FACES:
ALSC Architects P.S. has added Paul Wong to its staff. Wong has 15 years of experience in architecture and interior design, including tenant improvements, retail space planning and affordable housing projects. He is currently involved with master planning for the city of Spokane’s operations complex.
Scott Morris has joined the law firm of Powell & Morris P.S. as an associate lawyer. Morris received his law degree from the University of Washington, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in business finance. He will practice general law with an emphasis on litigation and business.
Joanie Whiteman has joined Harbor Financial Services as a registered representative. Whiteman, who has nearly 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, previously was a registered representative/financial consultant with WM Financial Services in Spokane and an investment representative with the Vancouver branch of Murphey Favre.
Genstar Land Co. Northwest has named Lori Henricksen as community ambassador for Eagle Ridge, a master-planned community in southwest Spokane. Henricksen has more than 15 years of marketing and management experience. She has directed several retail and fitness organizations and handled promotional programs for various other businesses.
Dakotah Direct has hired Jackie Lee as an account executive. Her responsibilities include maintaining and growing client relations.
Terry W. Flynn has been named director of alumni relations at Eastern Washington University. Flynn was admissions director at Washington State University since 1990 and held other jobs there since 1982. She received a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from Loyola-Marymount University, did graduate law studies at Yale Law School and received a master’s degree in adult and continuing education from WSU.
Susan Young has joined Capstone Construction Co. as an interior designer. She will open Capstone’s new showroom and division called New Creations Design Center. Young is a design instructor at Spokane Falls Community College and owner of Susan Young Interior Design.
First National Financial Group has hired Pat Wise as general manager and director of the home loan division. Wise has 26 years of experience in financial services.
MOVING UP:
Washington Trust Bank has promoted Lori Jo Knoles to assistant vice president, Small Business Banking Department. Knoles joined Washington Trust in 1991 and was assigned to the Small Business Banking Department in 1992. She is the bank’s representative to the National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders.
Cathey Lenhart has been promoted to Home Loan Center operations officer by Washington Trust Bank. Lenhart, who joined the bank in 1993, previously was the Home Loan Center’s computer coordinator.
Capstone Construction Co. has promoted Cathy Herrick to head of sales and marketing. Herrick, who has been with Capstone for four years, also is the membership chairperson for the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Spokane.
Jeanette Bowers has been promoted to staffing manager for Laborsource Personnel Services. Bowers is completing requirements for a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University.
Legalpros Personnel Services has promoted Kathleen Alderman to staffing manager. She will oversee all temporary and permanent legal and general administrative placements for the company, with an emphasis on recruiting, marketing and public relations.
Julie Hays has been promoted to district sales coordinator for AFLAC (American Family Life Assurance Co.) of Columbus, Ga. Hays, who joined the company 2 years ago, is based at the Spokane regional office.
ELECTED:
Tom Boge has been elected chairman of the American Society of Bakery Engineers. Boge, a fourth-generation baker, started his career at Boge’s Bread in Spokane. He later served as superintendent at Ruth Ashbrook bakery, and production manager at Gai’s Bakery, both in Seattle, before returning to Spokane to open Hearthbread Bakehouse.
The Inland Northwest Electrical League has elected Mark Kovacevich of Consolidated Electrical Distributors to serve the remainder of the term of president of the board of directors for 1998. The office was vacated when former president Barbara Bjerke was promoted and relocated to Seattle. Denny Ward of Pro-Lines Sales and Marketing replaced Kovacevich as INEL treasurer, while Susan Korling of Master Electric was chosen to fill Bjerke’s vacancy on the board.
The board of directors of YFA Connections, formerly Youth Help Association, has elected the following officers for 1998: Chair, Lyndia Vold; vice-chair, Dr. Michael Metcalf; treasurer, Karen Burkhardt; and secretary, Gordon Grant. Other members of the board are: Russell Burroughs, Cindy Doty, John Moloney Jr. and Douglas Tapscott.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Naomi Pauline McCrea, activity assistant at Hawthorne Retirement Community, has been certified by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals as an activity assistant certified. Certification indicates that the person has met or exceeded the standards of experience and education requirements set by NCCAP.

The Land Surveyor’s Association of Washington presented a certificate or seal to the following Spokane-area survey technicians for successfully passing the Level I or Level II examination of the Survey Career Development Program: Rick O’Neel, Hahn Engineering, Certified Level I Surveyor’s Aids; Todd Albert, Hahn Engineering, Certified Level II Instrument Technicians.
