Churches Plan For Bloomsday Weekend

Churches on the South side are planning special Bloomsday meals and worship services to accommodate Bloomies who will be running or walking in the big race on Sunday.

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th, will have its annual Bloomsday Eucharist at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third, will have its Sunday worship service at noon. The congregation of Jesus is the Answer Apostolic Church will also participate in the service. A potluck will be served following the service.

Boy Scouts Troop 325 will put on a spaghetti feed at the Manito United Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the meal. A worship service will follow at 7 p.m.

The church is located at 3220 S. Grand.

Central Lutheran Church, 309 W. Fifth, will host a Bloomsday spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m. on Saturday. A free-will offering will be collected to benefit various youth activities.

A contemporary worship service will follow the meal at 7 p.m.

Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield, will have a special worship service at noon on Sunday. Bloomsday finishers are encouraged to wear their T-shirts. Refreshments will be served following the service.

Bloomsday finishers can rest their feet and show off their shirts at a special Bloomsday concert Sunday at 2 p.m. at Westminster Congregational Church. The concert will feature show tunes from “Sound of Music,” “South Pacific,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Working.”

Admission to the concert is free. The church is located at 411 S. Washington.

The Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will not have any worship services on Sunday, since the church is located on the Bloomsday course.

Service group meeting

Church Women United will host a May Fellowship Day at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th. The event, titled “Widening the Circle of Hospitality,” will include a worship service, luncheon, business meeting and a memorial for deceased members.

The cost of the luncheon is $4. Child care will be provided for the event.
