Youth First Center Opens Today Post Falls Facility Gearing Up To Offer Wide Range Of Activities

Laura Shireman Staff writer

A youth center a community group has wanted to start since April opens today.

The group, Youth First, was formed to increase the amount of recreation opportunities for young people in Post Falls.

In mid-June, the group obtained the former post office on Post Street to use for the center.

Since then, group members and Americorp volunteers have remodeled the building.

Today, the center will offer free use of its arcade games and pool table.

The newly remodeled center has two main rooms - one large multi-purpose room with a bare floor for dances, recreational classes or for renting out to groups, and another smaller room for arcade games and other activities.

Other rooms will be used for computers, studying or simply lounging, said Vicki Caughran, Youth First secretary. The group may add a concession stand later.

For now, admission will be free. At some point, Youth First plans to charge for membership and charge nonmembers a small admission fee.

The hours of the center for the summer are: Monday through Thursday, noon to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, noon to 11 p.m. The center will be closed on Sundays.

Youth First is having a fund-raising golf tournament Aug. 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Highlands Golf Course. For more information, call Vicki Caughran at 773-3237 or Youth First Vice President Linda Seed at 777-8938.

The center’s phone number is 777-2066.
