Hosts Sought For Exchange Students
Treat your family to a cultural experience of a lifetime by hosting an exchange student through the Youth For Understanding International Exchange program.
According to YFU, American host families come from diverse nationalities and religious backgrounds. Host families live in cities, towns and rural areas.
While some have teenagers, others have preschoolers or no children. Host families share the desire to broaden their cultural perspectives, introduce foreign students to American culture and form lasting friendships that span the globe.
The families agree to provide room and three meals a day, August through June. Students in the program, 15 to 18 years old, bring their own spending money and have medical insurance.
Staff members at Youth For Understanding assist students and families with problems and questions while sponsoring activities during the year that bring YFU participants together.
Interested? Youth For Understanding needs to hear from you soon.
The non-profit organization must place approximately 30 students with host families in the next few weeks before teens arrive from Germany, Japan, Brazil and a dozen other countries. Host families can request a boy or girl and the country of their choice.
YFU will attempt to accommodate as many requests as possible.

Volunteers needed
Spokane’s YWCA, 829 W. Broadway, is looking for caring, friendly volunteers to help with its swim program this fall.
Because volunteers provide locker-room assistance to disabled participants, they must be able to lift a child or an adult. Scheduling is flexible.
For more information, call 326-1190, ext. 119.
