Arby’S, A&W Root Beer Plan New Cda Stores Along Highway 95

Ahhh. A frosty mug of A&W Root Beer and an Arby’s roast beef sandwich. It takes two stops, but the locations of the new stores in Coeur d’Alene will make the connections easier.

The new A&W will open within the new Holiday Station Store at Highway 95 and Haycraft (behind Rosauers) later this month. A sister store opened in May at Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue, across from a planned new Arby’s.

Pam Beasley will move from the Prairie A&W store to manage 10-12 employees at the Haycraft store, which will have inside seating for 24 people and a take-out counter (but no drive-through). Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, the store will offer the regular full A&W menu.

Mike Duquette, district manager for Inland Northwest Holiday Station stores, said eight Holiday stores now include A&W outlets. Duquette came to Spokane from Missoula. The root beer drive-ins originated in Michigan in the 1950s.

Meanwhile, construction on the new Arby’s, along Highway 95 in Prairie Shopping Center, is scheduled to begin later this month. The 2,500-square-foot store should open in mid-October with about 25 employees.

Featuring the regular Arby’s menu, the store will seat 65 customers inside and 25 outside. It will have a drive-through. Manager Tim Pattee will move from the Appleway Arby’s. Originally from Kennewick, Pattee had been with Arby’s in Coeur d’Alene during the 1980s and was with the Army for five years.

Headed by Richard Riva of Scottsdale, Ariz., both Coeur d’Alene Arby’s are owned by Girardi-Riva Corp., which owns 12 stores in Western states with a 13th due in Boise. With about 3,000 stores, Miami-based Arby’s began in 1964.

As the medical community finds its footing in fast-growing Post Falls, two companies have new spaces on the eastern side of town.

Ultrafit, a preventative medicine center combining care with exercise and nutrition, will open Monday in the Post Falls Medical Center, 925 E. Polston Ave. Located in 6,000 square feet, Ultrafit includes exercise equipment and a demonstration kitchen.

The Ultrafit program starts with a physical exam, blood and urine analysis, fat-percentage analysis and possibly cardiac stress tests. With nine employees, the staff includes a physical therapist and doctors from the North Idaho Immediate Care Center.

Owners are Dr. Jack Riggs, Kevin Spellman and Jim Doty, who plan another outlet in Liberty Lake next year. The 10-year-old Ultrafit company has eight outlets in Texas and Arizona. The grand opening in Post Falls will be Sept. 27. Phone 773-0601.

With doctors and other medical services moving into the Kootenai Medical Center Health Park, 1300 E. Mullan Ave., Northwest Home Medical has reopened in 625 square feet of the facility.

Owner Alison McArthur sells, rents and services items such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, scooters, lift chairs, bathroom safety equipment and medical supplies such as gauze, tape, blood pressure cuffs, breast pumps and oxygen.

A Post Falls native, McArthur majored in medical assistance at Phillips Junior College in Spokane. Her business is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays (closed noon hours). Phone 777-0416.

With 18 houses in a variety of sizes, styles and settings, the Parade of Homes offers free public viewing through Sunday throughout Kootenai County.

Offered by members of the North Idaho Building Contractors Association, the houses are open 3-8 p.m. today through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Catalogs with details may be obtained at any of the locations.

Follow the red “Parade of Homes” signs at Best Hill Meadows and Coeur d’Alene Place in Coeur d’Alene, on Silver Meadows Loop east of Silverwood, up Beauty Bay Hill on Highway 97 and in Post Falls at Highland Park Estates, River Run of South Spokane Street and near Cedar Street off East Seltice Way.

The houses range in size from 1,452 to 5,863 square feet and in estimated prices from $158,420 to $675,000.
